The Center for the Arts and Humanities

The SiCa Center for Humanities and the Arts aims to integrate artistic practice with theory, criticism and history. To date the program has, in partnership with the New York Public Theater, sponsored the workshop and production of JoAnne Akalaitis’ interpretation of Euripides’ The Bacchae. It also sponsored a symposium by the Classics Department on The Bacchae. The Center for Humanities and the Arts is currently sponsoring, together with the Stanford Humanities Center, Stanford’s first fellowship for a visiting artist/crtic.

The Center for the Arts and Humanities weds theory and practice, artistic creation and research. Through critical studies allied with artistic performances and exhibitions, the Center creates and supports new interdisciplinary initiatives. Programs include a partnership with the New York Public Theater, the Drama Department and the School of Education to create a summer Shakespeare program for teachers, as well as support for a new faculty interdisciplinary initiative in early modern studies.
