The Center for Arts Science and Technology
The SiCa Center for Arts Science and Technology (CAST) sponsors symposia, seminar series and visiting artists and scholars in areas that cross the boundaries between science and the arts. Current projects include Music and the Brain, a seminar series on color and sound perception, a residency by Symbiotica, a seminar series on concert hall acoustics, and an upcoming collaboration with the San Francisco Exploratorium. CAST has provided seed funding to research projects in archeology, music, computer science and visual arts.
Stanford’s presence at the leading edges of science and technology has had a profound impact on the arts. Stanford has produced pioneering work in music technology, computer graphics, auditory display, image processing, film, and design. CAST builds on these strengths by fostering synergy through cross-disciplinary symbioses of artistic creation and scientific inquiry. In the coming years new billets, graduate fellowships, residencies, project seed funds, collaborative research grants, innovative programs and special events will strategically position Stanford to maintain and build its leadership position in areas that integrate both art and research.
