Dance takes a leap from Athletics to Drama

For the first time, dance is part of the School of Humanities and Sciences as a field of academic pursuit rather than an appendage to the Athletics and Recreation program. At the invitation of Charles Lyons, Chair of Drama, it became affiliated with Drama. The same year, Stanford’s Dance Minor was established. In a pointed and memorable phrase, the course catalog at the time defined dance as “a valuable part of a life lived with amplitude and discipline.”
