W.B. Yeats on "Heroic Literature"

On the afternoon of 29 January 1904, the Irish poet W. B. Yeats (winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize for Literature) lectured on “Heroic Literature” to a Stanford audience of 800. Yeats later wrote from San Francisco to his friend and patron Lady Gregory in far-away Ireland: “I spoke at two colleges among palm trees & there was an orange tree by the hotel where I slept.”
