“Snap Sets & Continuous Forms 2.0” is a new dance work created in collaboration and conversation with celebrated LED-light & video artist Jim Campbell and the architecture of The Anderson Museum.
The work features a large group of dancers (10+ performers) all performing continuously throughout the Anderson galleries for the entire duration of the performance. Dancers will perform in various shifting modular configurations and locations while audience roams freely through the galleries, drawn by dancing that catches their eye and interest. Movement will be created using choreographic processes related to Campbell’s works and the architectural features of the museum space itself, including pixelization, fragmentation, memory, perception, and more. Collaborators include three Stanford composers: Michiko Thereur, Barbara Nurness, and Julie Liu who together form the music collective “Thruu”. Our vision is to fill the museum with a constantly changing movement and soundscape, enlivening the galleries as performative spaces.
The dancing will be challenging, physically demanding. There will be extensive partnering. We are seeking a diverse cast in all dimensions, including dance training and experience, gender, race, ethnicity.
Also seeking several project participants to assist the choreographer, record and log movement material as a rehearsal diary, curate/construct costumes, and coordinate set-up/strike.
