SGS Summer Film Festival: Honeyland

September 1 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Location: Zoom

The Sohaib and Sara Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies invites you to a screening and discussion of Honeyland. Watch the film from home at a time that works for your schedule, then join us on Zoom for a post-screening discussion.

Film synopsis: Hatidze lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, making a living cultivating honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. When an unruly family moves in next door, what at first seems like a balm for her solitude becomes a source of tension as they, too, want to practice beekeeping, while disregarding her advice. Honeyland is an epic, visually stunning portrait of the delicate balance between nature and humanity that has something sweet for everyone. Watch the trailer.

Watch the film at home then join us for a conversation with University of Wisconsin Professor Anna Gade, author of Muslim Environmentalisms Religious and Social Foundations, and Abbasi Program Associate Director Farah El-Sharif at 6:00pm (Pacific) on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021.

You can watch the film two different ways:

  • It is available to rent for $3.99 on Amazon Prime Video
