Richard Misrach lecture on

Artist Richard Misrach will be at Annenberg Auditorium on Monday to talk about his photography and the Cantor exhibition Revisiting the South: Richard Misrach’s Cancer Alley.

Misrach, one of the most influential photographers of his generation, helped pioneer the renaissance of color photography and large-scale presentation. For 40 years he has documented modern industry’s impact on nature, creating works that are beautiful but also provocative. His photographs are in more than 50 major museum collections worldwide, including the Pompidou Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, The National Gallery of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Don’t miss Misrach’s exhibition at the Cantor, which will be on view through June 16, 2013. See his profound work documenting the far-reaching ecological erosion and economic deprivation of the communities along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. The exhibition’s 19 large-scale images engage the viewer with serene pastoral scenes, meandering watercourses, and misty bayous; but the petrochemical industry is omnipresent in the rusted pipelines, contaminated water, and towering smokestacks. The exhibition is organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta.
