This film follows a group of senior skiers on their weekly trip up the Colorado Rockies. Full of life, but frequently facing profound adversities, such as cancer, aging with disablities, and the loss of partners, these men and women share stories of love, loss, and personal growth that play out in high contrast to the freedom and athleticism they exhibit on the mountain.

Filmed over a single ski season, “Snow Day” draws an intimate portrait of six friends, Phil, Clark, Betty, Phyllis, Roland, and Earl, and their journeys through life and adventures on the slopes. The film showcases the seniors’ skiing tradition, following them as they take on the various challenges presented by the mountain. For Phil and Clark, that means a cautious descent, a few falls and heartfelt chats on the ski lift. Betty, Earl and Phyllis enjoy satisfying runs, good-natured ribbing and a lunch punctuated with jokes. Roland, the one skier who can’t make it to the slopes this year, spends his days packing and ruminating on the goals he’s set for himself in the face of a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Snow Day” shows how the bonds of friendship and the love of skiing help these men and women meet the challenges of aging–physical and emotional–and, for one day a week, recapture the experience of flying down the slopes with the sun shining overhead and the wind on your face.
