Lan Samantha Chang was born and raised in Wisconsin and educated at Yale University and the University of Iowa. Her fiction has appeared in The Atlantic and The Best American Short Stories. Her collection Hunger was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award. She has written the novels Inheritance, which won the PEN Open Book Award, and All Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Lost. A former Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, Samantha has also received fellowships from Princeton University, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation. She lives with her husband and daughter in Iowa City, Iowa, where she is Elizabeth M. Stanley Professor of the Arts. She has served as Director of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop since 2006.
