Mozart Birthday Celebration with the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra All-Stars
January 18 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Location: Cubberley Auditorium, School of Education - Map Link
In celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 264th birthday, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra All-Stars present a program of chamber music masterpieces by the “Salzburg Scribbler” himself. This event features two quintets, String Quintet No. 5 in D Major, K. 593 and Horn Quintet in E-flat Major, K. 407, the latter being Mozart’s only work for horn and strings. Joining SFCO principal horn player Kate Dennis are Antoine van Dongen (violin); Liana Bérubé (violin); Alexandra Leem (viola); Ben Simon (viola); and Samsun van Loon (cello). Classical music fans will not want to miss the “Ask Wolfie” segment or the chance to win a prize from the Mozart Trivia Challenge.
Ben Simon, Violist; Music Director, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra (SFCO)
Ben Simon is in his 18th season as music director of the SFCO. Simon, a violist, puts down his baton to join his fellow SFCO All-Stars for select performances. He is also the music director of the award-winning youth ensemble Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Simon has been teaching Continuing Studies courses since 1996, and has organized popular events featuring the music of Beethoven, Bernstein, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and—of course—Mozart.
