STANFORD LIVE ANNOUNCES 2014-15 SEASON UPDATES
Bing Concert Hall lineup to include special event with Grammy winner Sheryl Crow, indie-pop-rock-duo Pomplamoose, third annual Sing and Play the Bing community concert and an Arts Open House to celebrate Anderson Collection; single tickets go on sale Sunday, September 7
Stanford Live’s expanded 2014-15 season is becoming even more expanded. In addition to the nearly 60 performances already scheduled, Executive Director Wiley Hausam has announced four more added events to the 2014-15 lineup, the organization’s third season at Bing Concert Hall.
Among the updates is Sound + Vision, a free arts open house on September 27 to celebrate the new Anderson Collection at Stanford University. The public is invited to view the just-opened museum housing 121 modern and contemporary paintings and sculptures by 86 American artists while enjoying live music by Stanford students. During the evening, the Bourbon Kings Brass Band will lead parades across Museum Way to Bing Concert Hall, where a patio party with the Marcus Shelby Quartet awaits.
The Grammy Award-winning singer and guitarist Sheryl Crow will give a special performance for the Stanford community on October 17. Having sold over 35 million pop and rock albums worldwide, Crow is known for hit songs such as “All I Wanna Do,” “If It Makes You Happy” and “The First Cut Is the Deepest.” Now her most recent single, a country song called “Easy,” has landed the artist on Billboard‘s list of top 20 country songs on the radio.
On November 1, YouTube sensations and Stanford grads Nataly Dawn (’09) and Jack Conte (’06) of the indie-pop-rock duo Pomplamoose will return to campus for a special concert selected for and by Stanford students. Pioneering the style of “VideoSongs,” Pomplamoose (a derivation of the French word for grapefruit, pamplemousse) made their online debut in summer 2008 and quickly became renowned for their split-screen video-editing that deliberately features every instrument used in the recording process.
For the third year in a row, Stanford Live will showcase the wealth of cultural diversity and artistic excellence in Silicon Valley with the free Sing and Play the Bing concert on December 6. This year’s program will feature the Peninsula Women’s Chorus, the Chinese Performing Arts of America and Tezkatlipoka Aztec Dance and Drum.
“I want arts patrons to know that Stanford Live not only presents classical music on a world-class level in the acoustically ideal environment of Bing Concert Hall, but it also does much more than that,” says Hausam. “Next season we offer a full range of music in addition to dance, theater and world premieres. Plus we’ll experiment with alternative performance formats and explore the ideas that inform all these works.”
Single tickets for the Stanford Live season will go on sale Sunday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. Highlights include a season opening concert by Grammy-winning virtuosos Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer (Sept. 21); the world premiere of The Demo (Apr. 1 and 2); solo appearances by the piano virtuoso Lang Lang (Mar. 20), singer/songwriter Emmylou Harris (Oct. 2) and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (March 5); dance programs by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company (Jan. 30) and Compagnie Käfig (Apr. 21); performances by the San Francisco Symphony (Mar. 19), Brad Mehldau’s jazz trio (Dec. 5); and the puppetry theater group Blind Summit Theatre (Oct. 30-Nov. 2).
