Office of the Vice President for the Arts

The Office of the Vice President for the Arts (OVPA) creates pathways for arts engagement and impact through central coordination and campus-wide resources.

OVPA plays a crucial role in organizing and representing the constellation of Stanford Arts to a range of audiences, while also offering its own programs to meet the needs of the campus community. Its core functions are to:

  • Advocate for the arts at the highest levels of the university, ensuring art and creativity are integrated into university decision-making and campus daily life.
  • Coordinate, amplify, and maximize the impact of arts-focused and arts-interested organizations, students and faculty on campus and in our community.
  • Support the arts ecosystem in our region and position Stanford as a bold and distinctive national arts leader.
  • Be a laboratory for interdisciplinary teams to pursue ambitious ideas focused on the role of art and creativity in shifting culture and policy and advancing equity, health, and well-being.

To deliver on these priorities, OVPA provides operational support for all of the units of the Vice Presidency for the Arts (Anderson Collection, Cantor Arts Center, Institute for Diversity in the Arts, Stanford Live, and Stanford Arts Institute) and serves as a central resource for students and faculty. This includes funding, space, and materials for student extracurricular arts activities; opportunities for student professional development; faculty grants; and oversight of interdisciplinary initiatives and visiting artist programs.

Deborah Cullinan is the vice president for the arts and Anne Shulock is the assistant vice president for the arts. Meet the full OVPA team.

Whether you’re a student, faculty, artist, visitor, researcher, or alum, the Office of the Vice President for the Arts can help you navigate our world and discover what fits your many and evolving interests.
