Brief History
In 2009, Arts Intensive was launched by the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education as an enhancement program in the arts open to all Stanford undergraduate students. Under the banner of “Three weeks, two units, and a creative community to last a lifetime,” the program offered a rich immersion into an art practice under the close mentorship of campus faculty and guest artists. In its first year, Arts Intensive offered six courses and now every September the program offers eight, including favorites that repeat each year and new courses that expand the reach of what is possible in the arts at Stanford.
Students and faculty alike remark that Arts Intensive is an experience unlike any other at Stanford where one can focus on a single art form in fully supported, hands-on courses with others who are passionate about the arts. In 2019 we celebrate the many hundreds of participants in this flagship program which helped create a new focus for the arts at Stanford.
